In 1972, Dan Verklas started Foxy Golf out of his garage in Wadsworth Ohio. Dan was a nightclub singer and musician. He entertained at various clubs in the Akron and Canton Ohio areas. His followers called him "Foxy". Dan loved the sport of golf which he played during the mornings and afternoons before his nightly gigs. He taught himself to refinish his wood headed clubs and became very good at it that his friends would have him work on theirs. Such was the start of Foxy Golf.

 

As his business grew, he moved from his garage to Akron. In 1980, he landed on Turkeyfoot Lake Road in Green, Ohio. Dan hired Joe Durkin in 1986 and the two of them ran the business until 1993. That year, Joe purchased the business and Dan retired. In 2002, Joe opened a second location in Canton, Ohio. Both stores continue to thrive as one of the top golf stores in the country.
